GMAT

gmat_1

The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is a standardized test used for admission to graduate business programs, such as MBA (Master of Business Administration) and other management-related programs. It is widely accepted by business schools worldwide, especially in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia.

Did you know? Across GMAT and GRE test takers around the world, more than 7 in 10 rely on the GMAT to get into business school. That's because the GMAT exam is designed specifically to support you on your business school journey, setting you up for success in the classroom and the boardroom!

Learn how you can reach your career goals with a graduate business degree. Explore your business school options, prep and register for exams, and get advice on the admissions process.

How do I get a GMAT scholarship for an MBA program?

gmat_2

When you apply to business school, you'll usually be automatically considered for MBA scholarships. This means you don't need to submit a separate financial aid application.

At other schools, however, you may have to make an additional financial aid application and submit it alongside your application for the MBA program.

In some cases, the MBA scholarship you're applying for won't strictly say it's for excellence in the GMAT. However, keep in mind that for any merit-based scholarship, your GMAT score will be a crucial indicator of MBA success.

The most competitive MBA programs in the world have very high average scores, typically upwards of 655 (in the GMAT exam taken after spring 2024), sitting around or above the 90th percentile.

When applying to a top MBA program, you'll need a strong test score and a well-rounded application to be considered for an MBA scholarship.

If you can land a high GMAT score in a competitive range, you might be able to make up for weaker areas of your application, such as a low GPA.

GMAT Structure

The GMAT exam assesses skills in analytical writing, quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning, and integrated reasoning. It consists of four main sections:

  1. Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA)
    • 1 essay (30 minutes)
    • Tests critical thinking and communication skills
    • Candidates must analyze an argument and present a well-structured response
  2. Integrated Reasoning (IR)
    • 12 questions (30 minutes)
    • Tests the ability to evaluate and interpret data from multiple sources (charts, tables, graphs, etc.).
  3. Quantitative Reasoning (Math)
    • 31 questions (62 minutes)
    • Tests problem-solving and data sufficiency skills.
    • Covers arithmetic, algebra, and geometry.
    • No calculator is allowed.
  4. Verbal Reasoning
    • 36 questions (65 minutes)
    • Tests reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and sentence correction skills.

Your GMAT Total Score is based on your performance on all 3 sections of the exam, with each section weighted equally. Your score is also valid for five years, giving you the flexibility to send your score to schools when you are ready!

Understanding Your Score.

  • All GMAT exam attempts, across all editions of the exam, taken online or at a test center, will count towards your five (5) GMAT exam attempts during a rolling 12-month period. There are no lifetime limits.
  • Scores from the GMAT Exam (10th Edition) will continue to be valid for 5 years from your appointment date.

The GMAT was the overwhelming choice at schools such as the Kellogg School of Management (76%), Harvard Business School (74%), and Booth School of Business (73%).
  • Top corporate recruiters look for GMAT scores. According to GMAC's 2024 Corporate Recruiters Survey, many recruiters consider GMAT scores when hiring MBA or business master's graduates.
